Steamship In The North Sea By Albert Rieger (1834 - 1905)

This marine painting depicting a steamship in the raging North Sea was painted around 1870. Despite the lack of a signature, its authenticity is guaranteed and it is attributed to the famous Austrian landscape and marine painter Albert Rieger (1834 Trieste - 1905 Vienna). Son and pupil of the painter Giuseppe Rieger, he settled with his family in Vienna in 1838. His works were exhibited on numerous occasions in Munich and Paris. Crown Prince Rudolf II acquired his landscapes "Am Traunsee" and "Gosausee". Rieger was awarded the Austrian Gold Medal and the Swedish-Norwegian Grand Gold Medal.

Condition: good after cleaning, one small repair on back of canvas, traces of wear on frame.
