Dragooner Cavalry Sabre Pattern 1854 / 1882, Coulaux Klingenthal, France Third Republic
French line cavalry saber for dragooner, pattern 1854-1880, signed by Coulaux in Klingenthal.
Dating from the early Third Republic era (before 1882).
Superb straight blade of 92,5 cm long. It is signed on the back "Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal" and bears two hallmarks on the heel:
1/ "C" under a star in an oval
2/ "G" in an oval
four-branch guard made of brass. The handle is made of horn. Probably for a non-commissioned officer.
Polished steel scabbard with two suspension rings (not modified in 1882 by the suppresion of one suspension ring).
This is a 1854 dragooner cavalry sabre with a less massive blade and guard.
Very good overall condition, with no play between the guard and the blade. Very slight traces of oxidation on the scabbard.
Total length of the saber: 109 cm.
Length of the blade alone: 92,5 cm.
A beautiful and scarce collector's item, entirely original and never modified.
