"Pair Of Candle Holders"
Made with very old wrought iron elements. The candle holders are composed of three angled, fleur-de-lis-adorned sections. They rest on a turned stem decorated with three stylized baluster motifs alternating with two centered rings and a tripod base. Gothic style, 19th century. Height: 114 cm / Diameter of tripod base: 45 cm (approx.) / Diameter of supports: 17 cm (approx.) (repairs) Provenance: Palacio Laurgain, Zarautz (province of Gipuzkoa, Spanish Basque Country). Highly decorative and symbolizing the Trinity, this pair of candle holders likely adorned the chapel of the "palacio." Built on a mountainside in the hills above Zarautz, the Palacio Laurgain takes us on a journey through time, from the "Spanish Golden Age" to the 19th century. Several generations of an illustrious Spanish noble family lived there, proud of their Basque (Lardizabal) lineage, and amassed furniture, objets d'art, paintings, and various other works… unfortunately dispersed over time. The Lardizabal family coat of arms is included in the photographs illustrating this lot.
