"Pair Of Polychrome Sheet Metal Wall Lights"
and "gold" with two arms of light. They are decorated with branches of flowers and Chinese figures carrying an umbrella sitting on mounds supported by leafy consoles. Antique work in the Louis XV style in the taste of the "Chinoiseries" of the 18th century. Total height: 33 cm. (Provenance: Château du Pinier, Charente-Maritime) Very fashionable, the decorations called "Chinoiseries" took place in different forms in many residences and apartments of the 18th century. Woodwork, furniture and various art objects were decorated with landscapes and exotic figures inspired by works imported from "China", or created by artists such as JB Pillement, F. Boucher, etc. Dedicated to the lighting and charm of a decor, our pair of sconces perpetuates the taste and originality of these creations which have a prominent place in the French and European decorative arts. The Château du Pinier was built around 1784 by Henri, Chevalier de La Tour, who sold it by contract on September 9, 1806 to Charles Madey d'Escoublan, who lived in Versailles. Various owners succeeded one another, each of them adding their personal touch during expansion works and restoration campaigns. The current residents, Mr. & Mrs. Jean-Soulange Renard, have, for more than twenty years, given this estate the appearance it offers us today. Descendants of the Lorimier, a great aristocratic family close to the court under the Ancien Régime, Mr. Renard had the pleasure of placing there various works, furniture and art objects that belonged to his family or acquired over time thanks to his collector's soul and his experience.
