"Saint John the Baptist", Important polychrome silk embroidery depicting the saint as a shepherd walking in an abundantly wooded and architectural landscape animated by a watercourse and two partly gouache angels. Frame in wood and gilded stucco decorated with stylized palmettes and foliage, the eglomisé glass pass-through decorated with a black and gold frieze. On the back, original cardboard bearing the label of the house HOETH… at La Glacière in Lyon. Holds the general repository of the productions of the Lithographie de Paris, makes paintings, gilding, & ornaments on clean glass for framing... Holds an assortment of gold and black frames from its factory... Work of virtue (?) circa 1830, monogrammed JD in the flower basket medallion. Height: 70.7 cm / width: 83 cm (frame dimensions)
