Oil on canvas by Robert Breitwieser depicting a still life composed of objects belonging to the artistic field. A mandolin is lying on a table accompanied by an open book, a large red vase, a paint palette, a small round vase containing a bouquet of yellow flowers and ears of wheat, and a small rectangular blue box. The whole is lit by a soft warm light. Signature bottom left. The frame rods are covered with velvet. Dimensions: 38.5 x 55 cm. Dimensions with frame: 42.5 x 59.5 cm. Robert Breitwieser was born in Mulhouse in 1899 and died in the same city in 1975. He first studied at the Mulhouse School of Drawing and then continued his artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and then attended the Hoffmann School of Art in Munich. Until 1927, he traveled extensively: to Paris, Sète, Greece, and Yugoslavia. He exhibited in Mulhouse, Strasbourg, and Paris, including at the Salon des Indépendants in the 1930s, as well as in Germany and Belgium, showcasing Alsatian paintings. He was a member of the Académie d'Alsace in 1953 and a member of the Institut de France in 1967. His works can be seen in museums in Mulhouse, Strasbourg, Altkirch, Colmar, and Belfort.
