Tallois: 12 Art Nouveau Silver-gilt Dessert Spoons, Flowers/carnations. C1900
Artist: Am Tallois
Magnificent set of twelve silver-gilt dessert spoons from the Art Nouveau period, circa 1900.
The spoons' spatulas are decorated with a superb floral branch blooming on the handle. They are accented with a small button at the base and are numbered JB (?) on the back.
The back of the spoons is decorated with a large flower repeating the motif on the spatulas.
The flowers depicted are most likely carnations.
The spoons are presented in a box covered with green crocodile-print paper.
Each spoon is hallmarked:
. Minerva, 1st grade, before 1973 for 950/°° sterling silver.
. Am Tallois silversmith's hallmark with a crown.
I have not been able to identify this silversmith; he is most likely a member of the Paul Tallois family, who partnered with the silversmith Louis Mayence in 1880.
Very elegant spoons with this typical Art Nouveau floral decoration, bringing a fresh and elegant touch. The spoons are dense and of excellent craftsmanship.
14 cm long
327.9 grams for the set.
Very good condition. The silver gilt is a little faded but in good condition. The case shows some wear.
