JAPAN - Edo period (1603 - 1868). Full samurai armor. KAWARI KABUTO (helmet) in black lacquered wrought iron depicting the large forehead of Fukurokuju (fuku, “happiness”; roku, “wealth”; and ju, “longevity”) is one of the seven deities of happiness in Shinto mythology. He is the god of wealth, longevity, virility and wisdom. SHIKORO (neck cover) with four steps in black lacquered iron and blue silk braiding. FUKIGAESHI (the small wings) in black lacquered iron. MAETATE in carved and gold lacquered wood depicting a gunbai (command fan) decorated with Chinese characters that could mean "pure dream". MEMPO (samurai half-mask) in black lacquered wrought iron, pronounced chin, mobile nose, pierced nostrils, full horsehair moustache, visible and gilded teeth, sweat hole under the chin, red lacquered interior. YODARE-KAKE (gorget) with five degrees in black lacquered wrought iron and blue silk braiding. DO (breastplate) with four degrees in wrought iron covered in leather and decorated in maki-e with leafy scrolls, blue silk braiding. SODE (shoulder guards) small, with four degrees in black lacquered metal and blue, white and orange silk braiding. KOTE (arm guards) in chainmail and lacquered iron plates. KUSAZURI (skirt) and HAIDATE (cuissards) with five rows in lacquered metal and blue silk braiding. SUNEATE (greaves) in black lacquered iron plates and quilted fabric. Sold with its GUSOKU BITSU (carrying cases) in wood and metal reinforcements and with its presentation stand. Dimensions of the armor in seated position: 144 x 50 x 58 cm.
