This exhibition catalog in Toulon (from 09/18/2025 to 05/16/2026) explores the festive world of disguises from the 17th to the 20th century, where cross-dressing becomes a true art of staging and transformation. From court masked balls to the stage of the Russian ballets, including the big screen, the selection reveals rare creations: cross-dressings for the 19th century ball, the costumes of Scheherazade from the creation of the Ballets Russes, a dress by Paul Poiret, the original costumes of Zizi Jeanmaire in Carmen in 1949, the outfit worn by Fanny Ardant in Colonel Chabert, and even a Harlequin costume from the end of the 18th century, an emblematic figure of the commedia dell'arte.
