Pair Of Reliquaries - Italian Work - 18th Century
Resting on a tripod foot, our two monstrances offer a central cartouche, protected from the profane world by an angel on the earthly side and a second on the celestial side. In carved, gilded and polychromed wood, they are topped with a fire pot, a fire that signifies His presence.
Welcoming each of the delicately bagged relics, they are surrounded by a gilded canetilles and pearls assembly.
For the first of our reliquaries, the ex-ossibus relics of Saint Cecilia are honored. The relics of Saint Vitalis Martyr, of the house of Saint Mary Magdalene, of the house of Saint Martha and finally of the door of the Holy Sepulchre, accompany the second. The seals are probably under the wooden shutter at the back that I did not want to damage for the purposes of investigation.
Very good condition - partially regilded.
Dimensions of 70 by 24 cm
