Reliquary Medallion of the Holy Cross - Italy - 19th century

Authentic oval reliquary medallion in silver-plated brass, containing a fragment of the True Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Description

The relic is presented in the center of a red silk background, decorated with a cross mounting with golden threads. The whole is encircled by a filigree decoration of silver-plated rolled paper.
On the reverse, the reliquary is sealed with silk threads and an intact ecclesiastical wax seal, guaranteeing the authenticity and integrity of the relic. The inner lid preserves a pious print representing the Virgin Mary.

These relics called “ex ligno Sanctae Crucis” are among the most sought-after and precious of Catholic devotion, because they refer directly to the torture of Christ.

Dimensions: approximately 3.5 cm x 3 cm

Condition:

Wear and oxidation to the metal, small cracks on the reverse, but wax seal well preserved and relic intact. In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as an object of sacred art.

The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
