Description
The skull, hands, feet and blade of the scythe are made of bone, contrasting with the drapery carved in wood and enhanced with a dark polychromy.This statuette is part of the tradition of vanities and memento mori, recalling the fragility of life and the inevitability of death.
A true object of meditation, it extends the Baroque and Romantic iconographic heritage which in the 19th century nourished a pronounced taste for the macabre and the symbolism of finitude.
Resting on a molded wooden base.
