Oval silver-plated reliquary, dating from the 18th century, containing a relic of Saint Felicity, a martyr of the early Church, venerated since the first centuries of Christianity.
Description
The central relic, of unusual size, is a bone fragment, carefully affixed to a background of crimson red cloth. It is surrounded by a decoration of paperoles and gilded floral elements, typical of Baroque devotional art.
A handwritten Latin label identifies the contents: “Ex ossibus S. Felicitatis Mart.” (From the bones of Saint Felicity, martyr).
The whole is protected by glass encased in a finely crafted mount, bordered by a repoussé decoration of pearls and foliage.
A bail allows it to be worn or hung in a private oratory.
The reverse is sealed with an original red wax seal, crossed with silk threads, guaranteeing the authenticity and integrity of the relic.
