Ottoman pillbox in 900 silver, oval in shape evoking a purse closed by a knot, typical of 19th century Ottoman silversmithing.
Description:
The object is decorated on the front with a finely chiseled central medallion with stylized floral decoration, highlighted with partial damascene gilding, surrounded by a double twist in relief giving volume to the whole. The lid is articulated by a discreet hinge and closes perfectly.
The bottom of the box is sober, while the interior bears the hallmark “900” attesting to the silver content.
The chasing work, mixing decorative reliefs and hammered textures, testifies to a refined know-how, halfway between the utilitarian object and the object of adornment.
