"Marquetry Box: Italy"
Elegant small marquetry box from Italy. Late 19th century. Box opening with a flap in precious wood marquetry decorated with a mask of Mercury wearing his winged helmet and surrounded by flowers and birds. The body of the box is embellished on all sides with garlands of flowers, angels, birds and stylized fantastic animals. Marquetry of rosewood, lemon tree, mahogany… Working lock with key. Wooden bottom with crack (see photo). Micro scratches on the varnish. Very good condition.
