8 Victorian English Tiles Designed By John Moyr Smith Minton Tennyson Idylls Of The King

A set of eight Victorian art tiles designed by John Moyr Smith (1839–1912) for Minton’s China Works, Stoke-on-Trent, circa 1875.

This celebrated series, titled “Idylls of the King”, illustrates scenes from the Arthurian legends as retold by Alfred Lord Tennyson. The present group includes subjects such as Excalibur, Guinevere, Vivien, Gareth, Galahad, and others.

• Dimensions: approx. 15.4 × 15.4 cm each.

• Marks: Impressed to the reverse “MINTONS CHINA WORKS, STOKE ON TRENT”.

• Condition: Good overall condition. Strong lines and colours remain vibrant.

Highly decorative and collectible examples of the Aesthetic Movement and the Victorian fascination with medievalism.
