Object description :

"Rare Octagonal Black Basalt Sugar Pot Or Tureen, Turner & Sons, England Ca 1780-1810"
Very pretty sugar bowl, or terrine, with lid, octagonal in shape. The two main faces are ornate with a classical decoration of a draped woman, framed by bouquets of flowers, the sides in trompe l'oeil of rings. Borders and lid decorated with geometric shapes and friezes of palmettes. Frettel or thumb grip in the shape of a stylized fruit. Unsigned but bearing a hollow mark below, as well as pencil inscriptions. A rare item to find, which I present here at a very reasonable price..
Good general condition, a very small chip on the rim, well visible, and white deposit which will need to be cleaned. Please look carefully at my detailed photos, I hide nothing!
English working, "black basalt" by John Turner and Sons, dating from the end of the 18th century or very beginning of the 19th century, Circa 1780-1810.
Dimensions: 13cm H x 15cm x 10.5cm
