"Circa 1880: 12 Brandy Glasses In Cut Glass, Enamelled Bronze Feet "
The end of the 19th century, devilishly eclectic, draws its inspiration from all the archaic decorative registers. These twelve brandy goblets are typical of this fusion of styles. Each composed of a cut glass cone decorated with bunches of grapes, and an inverted cone foot in gilded bronze decorated with champlevé enamels, recalling the Middle Ages by its polychromy, they show the perfect mastery of the craftsmen who made them. Under the foot of some we will note the initials GF on a band of enamel which is undoubtedly the signature of the artist. If the period is certain, around 1880, the provenance is an unresolved question. French in a neo-Byzantine taste or English in the art and crafts style, or even Italian in the Liberty taste .... the question is open
