A magnificent and serene oil-on-panel, signed and dated lower left, by the French landscape painter Armand Guéry (1850 - 1912).

The painting depicts a serene landscape scene with a boat moored on a river, a village with a church in the background, and trees framing the scene, evoking a peaceful waterfront setting. The remarkably fine composition is a beautiful, carefully refined example of the artist's work.

Guéry's work combines elements of Post-Impressionist influences and, while overlapping with more traditional mid-century French landscape techniques, consistently demonstrates a keen eye for detail, both in foliage and structural forms. The painter possessed a keen sense of tone and composition with this painting presenting an opportunity to acquire a work that encompasses the full range of his talents. A fine example of the artist’s oeuvre.

A student of Paul Emmanuel Peraire and Alexandre Rapin, Guéry did not begin painting seriously until the age of 30. In 1882, he exhibited his painting "A Plain in Champagne" at the Paris Salon, which attracted great acclaim. Building on this success, he moved to Paris in March 1883.

Guéry was a member of the Society of French Artists and won numerous awards: the Medal of Honor in 1885, the Raigecourt-Goyon Prize in 1890, the Third Class Medal in 1891, and the Second Class Medal in 1894.
