Object description :

"1 Engraving Of Giuseppe Donizetti Pasha And 1 Reproduction Of Gaetano Donizetti"
An anonymous engraved portrait of Italian composer and conductor Giuseppe Donizetti (1788–1856), known as Donizetti Pasha, in ceremonial dress, decorated with numerous medals and wearing a fez, symbolizing his integration into the Ottoman elite. On the right, an excerpt from a musical score evokes his fundamental role in the musical history of the Ottoman Empire.

I am enclosing a 19th-century reproduction of a miniature by Mr. Albanesi depicting Gaetano Donizetti (1797–1848). It is annotated with various inscriptions in Italian and a dedication with signature.

Elder brother of the famous opera composer Gaetano Donizetti, Giuseppe was initially a military musician under Napoleon, before becoming a conductor in the service of the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. In 1828, at the invitation of Sultan Mahmoud II, he moved to Istanbul and took charge of the Ottoman Imperial Musics. His task was to reform the traditional military bands in the Western style. He introduced a new military musical tradition, trained palace musicians, taught members of the imperial family, and welcomed visiting European artists such as Franz Liszt. He is credited with composing the first Ottoman national anthem.
