Arabian Horse: Orientalist Aquatint Engraving After Vernet, 19th Century
Engraving aquatint by Jazet after Carle Vernet
19th century
Sergent Printing House, Rue de la Harpe, 90 in Paris
54.3 x 65.2 cm sheet
47 x 58.8 cm image
This engraving is approximately 200 years old. It is in good condition considering its age.
Our restorer has carefully cleaned it to remove the signs of aging. The engraving had several tears in the white margins at the top and bottom; those at the top extended slightly into the composition. These tears have been carefully restored and are now barely visible. Once the engraving is mounted on a mat and framed, these tears will become virtually imperceptible.
To strengthen the paper, which has become fragile over time, and to ensure its better preservation, the engraving has been lined with a thin sheet of Japanese paper, using traditional restoration techniques.
This is a rare engraving, and its price reflects its condition. Please examin the photographys, they are part of the complete of it.
