Oil on canvas depicting a man lying on a deathbed, his body completely covered with a light white veil. The deceased is shown with his head resting on a pillow, in the solemn atmosphere of a bourgeois bedroom. Several funeral wreaths and a tricolor flag are arranged around him.
The decor features dark blue wallpaper with a stylized gold pattern reminiscent of fleurs-de-lis, an element that suggests a high-class interior and gives the scene an aristocratic dimension. The presence of the French flag covering the body probably indicates a tribute to a figure who played a public, political, or military role.
