Set Of Seven Port Views – “ports De France”, 1776

Rare set of seven original engravings from the renowned Ports de France series, designed by Nicolas-Marie Ozanne (1728–1811), royal naval engineer, and engraved for the King of France in 1776. The plates depict detailed and lively scenes from major French ports – including Rochefort, Rouen, Dieppe, Brest, St Malo, Le Brac, Bouen – with ships, trade activity, and coastal architecture of the period.
The engravings are printed on laid, watermarked paper, and bear engraved captions with royal dedication, along with the names “N. Ozanne del.” and “A. Gab. Sculpsit”.
The prints have been slightly trimmed, likely to fit into the period frames. The visible image measures approximately 25 × 21 cm, while the antique ebonized fruitwood frames with gilt edging measure about 29.5 × 25.5 cm. The frames show minor wear, some small chips and inactive wormholes. A few prints have light stains or traces of old humidity, but no active mold or structural damage.
A highly decorative and historically significant set, originally commissioned for the French monarchy to celebrate its maritime power in the late 18th century.
