Kneeler
Walnut wood and inlay in various types of wood, H 85 x W 62 x D 50
Kneeler in walnut wood and various types of wood made in the 17th century in the Venetian area. The raised section, ending in an original solid walnut top, under which runs a serrated band, is opened by three drawers, finely decorated with inlay work, divided into a central medallion flanked by a pair of semicircles, within which are depicted symmetrical figures of knights with drawn swords. The inlaid panels are contained within a frame that plays on the two-tone effect of the walnut and maple wood. The lower section features the same decoration as the drawers on the front of the predella; the horizontal shelf can be folded down to reveal a large storage compartment.
The sides, also in solid walnut, are decorated with a perimeter frame.
The handles are in bronze, chiselled with scrolls, with a cherub's head in the centre.
The piece is intact and patinated, the shelf feet were added at a later date.
