David, by Michelangelo
Marble powder, H 85 cm

This sculpture is a marble powder reproduction of Michelangelo's famous David, one of the most famous works of the Italian Renaissance, created by sculptor Lorenzo Dal Torrione, a renowned sculptor specialising in the reproduction of classical masterpieces. His works in plaster or marble powder are appreciated for their attention to detail and high quality craftsmanship, making them unique pieces in the world of artistic reproductions.
Lorenzo dal Torrione was born, lived and worked in Pietrasanta, where he learned the craft of sculpture by attending Urbano Buratti's workshop from 1952 onwards. There he mainly worked on clay models and sacred and funerary art subjects. From 1966, Dal Torrione worked as a contractor in various workshops until 1970, when he opened his own studio in La Madonnina, which he then moved to another area of Pietrasanta in 1974. He also worked on commission for foreign artists who arrived in Pietrasanta in the late 1950s with the development of the foundries, while from 1965, for almost thirty years, he collaborated with a company in Mantua specialising in synthetic marble sculpture, creating clay models that were then cast in plaster. For a long time, he also worked with Sirio Navari, a renowned sculptor in the area.
The David under examination is a tribute to the extraordinary Renaissance work by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564), a symbol of strength and ideal beauty, now preserved in the Accademia Gallery in Florence. Having become a symbol of universal art, it represents the biblical hero in the moment before his clash with Goliath, embodying the ideal of beauty and perfection of the human being.
The finely worked stone highlights the anatomical details and intense expression of the face, making this sculpture a refined piece for collectors and lovers of classical art.
