A lidded tea caddy in Rozenburg eggshell porcelain (eierschaalporselein), produced at the Haagsche Plateelbakkerij, The Hague, between 1900 and 1907. Hand-painted by Samuel Schellink, one of the manufactory's most accomplished decorators. Three-digit order number 199 in black.
Rozenburg eggshell porcelain stands as one of the most technically demanding achievements of European Art Nouveau: fired to an almost translucent thinness, it represents the apex of the manufactory's output and remains among the most prized ceramic collectibles on the international market. Comparable pieces are held in the permanent collections of leading European museums.
