"Art Deco Kingfisher Vase, Leune (1925)"
Polychrome enameled Leune vase decorated with birds and foliage on an aniseed granite background. Signed. This flamboyant Art Deco vase is a perfect example of the preference for enameled glass in 1920s France. The vase was made by Maison Leune, a Parisian glassworks active in the early decades of the 20th century. This famous motif, called Kingfisher, is the work of Auguste Heiligenstein (1891-1976), who was artistic director of the Parisian manufacture between 1923 and 1926. Heiligenstein also improved the techniques: by heating the enamel, new possibilities opened up to add an extra dimension through a play of color and light. These vases therefore have a purely decorative function. Condition: This vase is in good condition and shows no visible signs of damage.
