About the artist:
This small 19th-century oil painting can be attributed to the French artist and illustrator Eugène Auger (1847-1922), who became best known for his architectural drawings and book illustrations. The son of a lamplighter and a tinsmith, he first studied in Reims. He completed his training in Paris and took over the family business in 1881. After retiring, Auger moved to Trigny, where he was able to devote himself to his passion for drawing and painting. He completed commissions for a number of local publications, including the Archaeological Directory of the City of Reims. His best-known paintings were commissioned by Hugues Krafft for the Le Vergeur Museum.Condition: This painting and its accompanying frame are in good condition with no visible signs of damage.
