"French Decorative Water Bottle"
This original green earthenware jug dates from the second half of the 19th century. This object is in impeccable condition and will fit into any interior. This beautiful earthenware jug comes from southwest France and was used to store drinking water. Thanks to the porosity and typical shape of this type of pottery, the water remained remarkably cool all day long. Indeed, the water slowly evaporated through the walls of the jug, producing a natural cooling effect. The name gargoulette refers to the typical sound the water made when pouring from the jug. This jug was tied to a beast of burden with strong ropes and carried during work in the countryside. This example is completely unique, as it was made specifically for beasts of burden and is fully glazed. Condition: This jug is in perfect condition. The rope was probably replaced in the early 20th century.
