The overall measurements including the frame are 114cm x 88cm x 5cm and the painting measures at 91 x 66cm

A very fine, large early 17th-century Italian old master oil-on-canvas depicting Christ bound with rope around his wrists and with the crown of thorns placed on his head. Relined around 1900 and ready to hang, the present work is beautifully composed and skilfully executed. In comparison to other versions of this popular motif, this particular painting is an outstanding example.

Condition report: the canvas was lined approximately 120 years ago. The canvas is in good tension and the paint surface is stable. There is some very small age -elated patina and craquelure (refer to photos) throughout, but given the considerable age of the work these are relatively inconspicuous. In very good condition for its age.

The frame will be professionally made, bespoke for the painting, and is of a very high quality. It will be identical to the one in the picture. Should the buyer prefer not to have this frame we may be able to supply it with an alternative one, but this will take up to 14 days to have made and will be restricted to an allowance of 250 euros. In the event of the buyer not requiring the frame to be made, the price of the painting will be reduced by 250 euros.
