Snuff Box In Burl Wood And Solid Gold. 19th Century, Restoration - July Monarchy

Superb burlwood, gold, and tortoiseshell snuff box.

The oval burlwood box is enhanced on the edge of the lid and base with a tortoiseshell border, themselves highlighted with a painted black border. The body is also painted with large oval cartouches enlivening the snuff box.

The interior is plated with tortoiseshell.

A large gold mount, contrasting with the dark tortoiseshell, enhances this box.

It is hallmarked:
. Bull mark: 3rd standard, 750/°°; Paris 1819-38
. Head mark of Sardanapalus (last king of Assyria), guaranteeing large gold works for the same period
. Goldsmith's mark to identify: CIP (?)
