Snowy river bank, oil on panel by Léon Zeytline signed lower right, in the background a mountain range in an atmosphere irradiated by light, probably Russian landscape. 58 x44cm with frame: 75 cm x 60 cm Léon ZEYTLINE, (1885-1962) Franco-Russian artist trained at the School of Painting and Sculpture in Moscow. Returning to France in 1906, he settled in Paris, first as an illustrator collaborating with various newspapers and publishers, then he developed, in an impressionist style, an art which transcribed with a beautiful light the splendor of the Roaring Twenties and the scenes of Parisian life and its cafes. He married an Alsatian woman in 1925 and settled near the Swiss border then in Mulhouse, his style evolved towards seascapes with a highlight, often in rough seas, of remarkable ships. Léon Zeytline was a member of the French Artists Association and participated in numerous exhibitions both in France and abroad. A beautiful retrospective exhibition was held at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Mulhouse in 2020.
