Superb oil on canvas by Pierre Thomas representing a lively view of Eymoutiers in Haute-Vienne around 1910/1920, signed lower right. Format of the canvas alone without frame 46x38cm and 54x46cm including frame. This is therefore a magnificent post-impressionist composition by Pierre Thomas who paints here one of the emblematic villages of Limousin, Eymoutiers, a small town in the south of Haute-Vienne where a large number of painters came to set up their easel, such as Léon Jouhaud, Charles Bichet, Henri Pailler, Albert Joseph or Louis Lefort for the most famous. Faithful to his way of painting Pierre Thomas uses his impressionist touch with small commas while leaving subtle reserves; his palette is just as typical with its sky blue, pink, orange, soft greens, ochre, red/purple....Pierre Thomas was a Limoges painter, cousin of Paul Thomas, another great Limoges painter, friend of Eugène Alluaud and Léon Jouhaud. Like them, he exhibited in the Limoges capital but also in Paris, at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon des Artistes Français.... He also regularly painted in the Creuse, in the valley, but also in villages in the south of the department such as Bourganeuf or Aubusson. He is therefore naturally one of the painters of the Crozant school among whom he holds an important place. The BAL museum in Limoges has a very fine collection of the artist's paintings.
