Jacob van Spreeuwen was one of the "Fine Painters" of Leiden.
He was influenced by both Rembrandt and Dou. In the past, it has been suggested that he was a pupil of Gerrit Dou, Rembrandt's first pupil, or even of Rembrandt himself.
