The sculptural composition is executed with great mastery, highlighting the details of the horse’s drapery, anatomy and movement. The rectangular base is adorned with a relief frieze of military trophies, helmets and classical motifs, embodying the martial aesthetic of the Napoleonic era. The white enamel dial is delicately signed Thomire & Cie, in reference to Pierre-Philippe Thomire, the most renowned bronzier of the early 19th century and official purveyor to the imperial court. The original pendulum movement strikes a bell, and the remarkably preserved period gilding reveals the characteristic warm tone of mercury gilding. A museum-quality timepiece exemplifying the grandeur and neoclassical refinement of the Empire style.
