Academy Of Man - Signed Ferdinand - Dated 1865
Artist: Ferdinand
Large drawing depicts a standing nude man, three-quarters back view, slightly turned to the left. The male figure is depicted with great anatomical precision: the muscles of the back, arms and legs are finely rendered, with great mastery of modeling and the play of light and shadow.
The man lowers his head and looks at his hands, in a posture that is both natural and slightly introspective. His right arm is folded towards the bust while the left arm is more relaxed, both hands open in a measured gesture. The weight of the body rests on the left leg, the other being slightly bent.
The drawing is done in black stone or charcoal, on paper slightly yellowed by time, marked by a few horizontal folds. The tight vertical framing accentuates the monumentality of the body, which fills almost the entire sheet. It is framed in a classic border with a white mat and a gilt frame with pearl decoration.
Male academy in graphite and black stone on paper.
Signed "Ferdinand" and dated "1865" lower right.
