Rare Pewter Wine Pitcher - Orleans, 18th Century
Pewter wine pitcher, shouldered shape, flared base, straight, oblique goblet shaped like a "postilion's boot" with a recessed lid and acorn-shaped thumb rest.
Marked by H. CHERON, received as a master in 1751 according to his hallmark: quadruped (dog or cat?) / H.C.
Height: 13.6 cm.
ORLEANS, Second half of the 18th century
In perfect condition and of fine quality.
Gauge : 0.28 liters.
The "Pot" in Orléans measured 2.24 liters at that time, which, by successive divisions by 2, gives the half-pint at 28 centiliters verified here.
