Truncal conical pewter dinner carrier with a quarter-round groove, domed lid with central handle and swinging handle with cherub head attachments. Model by Claude François BOUVIER, active from 1835, unmarked.
Height to the groove: 10 cm.
CLAMECY, Mid-19th century.
In perfect condition.
This object was used by shepherds and farm workers, day laborers, etc. Several sizes existed, the number varying according to the production centers, from 4 to 6. The shapes of these dinner carriers are variable: truncated conical in Burgundy, pom-pom-shaped in Île-de-France, flared in Anjou…; The handle attachments, depending on the region, feature cherub heads, rosettes, finials, human masks, etc. Among the Bouvier family in Clamecy, slight variations are observed in the number of curls in the hair of the cherub heads.
