Italian Reliquary Frame In Soft Colors - 19th Century
Charming reliquary frame in carved, painted and gilded wood with a medallion in its center representing Saint Anthony of Padua, in relic paste or painted wax, surrounded by a montage of gilded cannetilles and fabric flowers. Protecting it are four bagged relics of the holy martyrs of the first centuries: Juste, Casti, Valide and Mansveti. An Italian work from the end of the 18th or the very beginning of the 19th century.
The back was later covered with the prologue of the Gospel of Saint John taken from an edition by Leonardo De Giorgi around 1840. Dimensions of 28 cm wide by 37 high. Good condition
