Art Nouveau Desk Set Of Black Lacquered Metal Frames With Engraved Gilt Egyptian Decoration
A rare and remarkable set of desk ornaments comprising three black-lacquered metal table frames with richly engraved and gold-leafed decoration.
The large double frame: Curved in shape, it features a central design depicting the hippopotamus goddess Thueris (or the standing god Anubis) flanked by deities in profile, fanciful hieroglyphs and stylised lotus friezes.
The two small single frames: Matching, they are adorned with figures of priests, Egyptian deities and sacred birds (notably the ibis or falcon). Each panel is lined with an olive-green silk fabric featuring a textured design (original). Metal backing with supporting struts.
Art Nouveau period / ‘Return from Egypt’ style, late 19th century, circa 1895–1900. *

H 8 cm, W 11 cm (the smaller one).
