Empire Period terminal clock in finely chiseled gilded bronze. Titled within a laureate shield "Honor and Glory", this small horological piece with a martial subject depicts, next to a terminal containing its movement, a proud Roman warrior. of his glorious armor. Opposite, victorious military attributes. Quadrangular base with projection enriched frontally with applied laureate crowns and a central military trophy. Ornate base. Circular white enameled dial set with fine twisted patterns of pearls and straps with Roman numerals for the hours, graduations for the minutes. Wire movement. Bearing in the center a summit shield surrounded by knotted branches of laurel-symbol of Victory - the martial inscription "Honor and Glory", this small pendulum - terminal full of meaning exalts the heroic values bequeathed by the triumphant Ancient Rome of the Imperial Era. Entirely made of finely chiseled gilded bronze, it features a judiciously architectural form with tiers forming a pedestal to a spartan composition. Next to a terminal decorated with spandrels decorated with stylized florets and palmettes stands, represented in a solemn attitude, a glorious Roman warrior. Wearing a crest helmet, clad in the Roman imperium (fibula coat, ornate pectoral breastplate, scalloped tunic, laced sandals), one hand riveted to the pommel of his sword (sign of fides), he looks towards the laureate shield which he points to with his raised arm. Meanwhile, take their place, intertwined with laurel branches, two ribboned banner holders crowned with victorious insignia (lion, flowered laurel wreath). Base on a step, figure and military attributes flank the white enameled dial of the clock set with fine twisted cords with alternating patterns of pearls and braids. This indicates the hours in Roman numerals and the minute graduations using two partridge-eye hands called “Breguet”. The whole rests on a high quadrangular base enriched on the facade with finely chiseled applied ornaments. Reinforcing the martial theme of this clock, two ribboned laureate wreaths frame a military trophy combining palms, leafy branches of grained laurel, a bundle of braided standards around a noble Roman armor. Four ornate feet enhance the sought-after composition of this timepiece whose virile theme will delight any lover of decorative objects from the Empire Period evocative of ancestral and meritorious values inherited from the glorious Greco-Roman world. ----------------------- Parisian work from the first half of the 19th century.
