A Peasant Work Skirt With Its Finish - Provence 1870-1890
Circa 1860-1890 Provence Beautiful work or flower girl skirt from the Var (as indicated in many late 19th century photos) in hand-woven cotton. Original period assembly with barrel pleats and front tightening slide in beige twill cotton bias. White cotton background woven by the chain of madder or cochineal red stripes. Gros de Naples type horizontal fluted ribbed canvas weave in the 18th century lexicon. In new antique condition, never used. Excellent state of conservation and color despite some micro spots of yellowing. Dimensions: Height 88 cm (plus hem 12 cm), skirt bottom 290 cm.
