"Double-sided Devotional Object"
Amazing double-sided devotional subject from the 19th century. Oval view frame enclosing two attached devotional works, one presenting the relics of Saint Ursula & Agnus Dei, the other a portrait of Saint Anthony. The reliquary is made with canetille work of silver metal wire, fixed on an oval medallion covered in sky blue silk and enhanced by a marie-louise of burgundy velvet. The portrait of Saint Anthony is painted in gouache on oval-shaped cardboard and enhanced with a burgundy velvet marie-louise. Each of the works is protected by beveled glass with an oval view, dimensions at sight: 11 cm x 13 cm. The interior medallions, being smaller than the velvet mat, allow a glimpse of the day and the delicate canetille work around the edges serves both sides simultaneously. This openwork technique brings a lot of lightness to the whole, the two subjects seem to be suspended in space. Thick frame in patinated stucco, imitating stone, frieze of pearls inside and pretty frieze of foliage rolled up on the outer edge, some very acceptable microcracks and wear due to time. An original metal suspension ring to which a link made of cotton threads has been added. The whole remains in beautiful condition, entirely original, its interior elements well preserved in a double hermetically closed frame. Note: the double-sided system of this devotional object makes it very original. Delivery: €15 for mainland France.
