Museographic Curiosity: Silver Hanap From 1650, Cast Two Centuries Later
Superb object, with beautiful patina, a covered gooseberry from the 17th century, South Germany, commemorating (so it seemed to me). The ordination of Pastor Diedrich, 1650. Superb decoration in 3 reserves of sufferings of Christ, ronde bosse. Unfortunately, it is an electrolytic molding from beginning of this technique, circa1840/50, which made it possible, on period it was unprecedented, to replace precious objects on display in museums with moldings... The original may have to be now gone, we are left with this beautiful witness, caught on spot…. Good condition, traces of silvering. Take a good look at our photos.
