Woven Basket For Holding Pins, Rushes, Silk, And Steel Beads, Circa 1840

A lovely oval basket made of finely woven rushes, very elegant, resting on an openwork base.
Body is covered with a dark blue silk velvet ribbon, embroidered with cut and gathered champagne velvet vine leaves. The tendrils are strung with tiny steel beads running through the rotating design.
The upper rim flares elegantly. Inside, a removable ball of dark blue silk velvet, which the previous collector used to display a luxurious collection of hatpins.
In good condition, especially considering its nearly two centuries of age. The blue velvet ribbon, worn on places, still betrays its great age.
