Balance Beam Of A Locksmith In Love, Directoire Or First Empire
Artist: Art Populaire
A sturdy suspended balance beam (I don't have pans), good size, made from thick wrought iron, dating from late 18th century. Dimensions: 68cm x 45cm. Weight: 2.8kg.
The remarkable feature of this otherwise utilitarian balance is the central pointer, which is replaced here by a pointed obelisk, made from openwork wrought iron, measuring 20cm x 5.5cm.
At its base is a locksmith's sign with two crossed keys surmounted by one heart, and then the lozenges so characteristic of the Directoire-First Empire period.
A beautiful object.
