Foot Warmer Cabinet
Walnut foot warmer in Louis XV–Louis XVI transitional style, made towards the end of the 18th century. It takes the form of a small, finely crafted piece of furniture with scrolled crossbars and fluted vertical corners. The front panel opens via a flap to reveal a compartment lined with metal sheets housing the heat source: most likely hot bed bricks. On the top, openings in the shape of hearts, spades and circles allow heat to escape. The decoration is complemented by engraved geometric motifs.
