"Four Leaf Indian Screen, Rajasthan - Early 20th Century"
Large double-sided screen in painted wood, made by Indian master craftsmen from Rajasthan, at the beginning of the 20th century. This four-leaf screen is made up of multiple panels of different sizes, carved and painted, surrounded by white, red and gold nets. Some panels are openwork and represent foliage and branches. All solid panels are painted on a black background accompanied by rich illustrations. These depict tiger hunting scenes. Men in traditional clothes are equipped with spears and swords. They sometimes fight with their bare hands or on the back of an elephant in order to kill the wild animal. This unique screen combines Indian art and functionality.
