"Earthenware Hollow Dish, Frankfurt Late 17th Century."
This very beautiful hollow, circular dish rests on a small heel. Its very elaborate shape has two rows of gadroons around an umbilicus, one convex and the other concave. Its Chinese decor is directly inspired by the "blue white" porcelain imported from Asia at that time, which was very popular throughout Europe. Its light blue decor on a white background represents two Chinese people in the center against a background of a flowery and wooded landscape. The very light blue as well as the decoration is characteristic of the Frankfurt production. In excellent state of conservation, however some small enamel jumps are to be noted on the reverse of the dish (see the photos of the reverse). Period Late 17th century. Diameter 29 m, height 5 cm.
