Set of three decorative circular medallions in bas-relief: The Allegories of the Seasons
In turquoise blue and peacock blue glazed earthenware, characteristic of the artist
Late 19th century

Inspired by classical bas-reliefs and late 19th-century Symbolism, these medallions depict allegorical rural scenes: 
- spring: a young woman in the classical nude, draped in a cloth, crowned, and surrounded by two putti offering her garlands and wreaths of spring flowers near a flower-adorned altar
- summer (the harvest): a pair of reapers in the classical style, sickles in hand, standing amid ears of wheat, while a young gleaner kneels to gather the sheaves
- Fall (the grape harvest): a winegrower carrying a bunch of grapes on his shoulder and his staff, joining a young mother seated with her infant at the foot of a climbing vine, accompanied by a dog

Clément Massier was one of the leading figures in the revival of French ceramics during the Art Nouveau period. Based in Golfe-Juan from 1883 onward, he surrounded himself with renowned sculptors (notably Alexandre Charpentier and James Vibert) and revolutionized the art of ceramics with his lustrous and iridescent glazes, which won awards at the World’s Fairs.

Please note some slight chipping in the enamel due to normal wear, with no structural cracks.
